Yes, this one is bothering me. As a personal preference, I like "wile," probably because I have read it in a bunch of books written by old-timey Brits (read: Charles Dickens). It's jolting to my eye to see "while" away the time. In fact, I pretty much abhor it. Don't ask me why.
